Continuing Dock One’s maritime brand theme, the road and laneways within the new homes development will carry the names of the ports of call along the route of the Royal Mail Steamer, the Orient Line. The ship carried trade goods and passengers between England and Australia from 1879 – 1909.
The naming theme has a clear relevance and link to the area and holds tight historical relevance, including the fact that Dock One runs off Ocean Steamers Road.
Starfish Developments consulted with the SA Maritime Museum and History Trust of South Australia to explore naming options. The final selection fits with Port Adelaide Enfield Council’s Street Naming Policy for uniqueness and need to relate to local history of the existing Port Adelaide precinct.
Dock One recently reached a key milestone with the construction of the first laneway which will be called Albany Walk. The remaining lanes will be entitled :
